Extractions

Extraction, or pulling out a tooth is only used as a last resort when the tooth cannot be saved. So, we will take every precaution and try every other avenue FIRST before extracting your tooth. There's nothing better than having your own full set of teeth in your mouth, but when that is just not an option, thank goodness for modern dentistry!

Nowadays, after reconstructing a tooth following extraction, other people will be hard pressed to know that it is not your real tooth. So, don't worry! Even if you do need to have a tooth pulled, we can assure you that we will fix it so that it looks and feels as good as new!

What to expect:
First, numbing jelly is placed where the tooth is going to be removed. Next, the area is numbed to ensure comfort during the procedure. Finally, the doctor uses specific instruments to easily remove the tooth.
Depending upon the extent of the extraction, stitches may be used to help the area heal. Stitches may be silk or gut (absorbable).

You will be given instruction on what not to do and what not to do after your procedure. The doctor may have you schedule a follow up to check on the healing. If the extraction is too complicated it may need to be referred to an oral surgeon. We have several oral surgeon's that we work with and will help you get an appointment with them as soon as possible.
And again, have no fear, you have lost many teeth in your life growing up, so if a child can do it, so can you.
